My secret to handling the craziness of the back to school
It's that time of year again, when the kids are heading back to school and we slip back into our routine of busy mornings, compiled with nightly homework, running with the kids back and forth, going to work, trying to get well-balanced meals on the table, as well as take care of ourselves.
I love this time of year; the cooler weather, the changing of the leaves, it has always been my favorite, but I will say that this particular year has made me feel a little anxious. My two boys are heading off to school, my oldest into grade one, while my youngest is entering kindergarten; big steps for them both, and a big step for me.
It’s hard not to feel anxious and stressed out when you know your children are nervous about what they will be experiencing at school. I admit I have had some sleepless nights worrying about how my boys will do, and knowing that my lazy summer routine needs to be readjusted back to fit into a busier time of year.
It’s easy to feel that you don’t have a handle on things when life comes at you from all directions. When I feel as though I am losing control, I know yoga is always there to balance me out. When I am feeling particularly stressed and overwhelmed, I shift my usual yoga practice into one that helps me release the tension and anxiety I am feeling and to bring a deeper sense of calm within.
The chaos of this time of year calls for some Yin Yoga to help me to shut out the world for a moment and just focus on me. What makes it even better, is the added Grippz Mats I now use to help ease away my stress throughout my practice. Since adding this amazing mat, the tension I hold in my body when I am worried or anxious simply melts away, and I find that I am able to sleep better at night.
If you’re like me, sleepless nights mean one cranky lady, and when I get cranky, my ability to handle things well isn’t what it should be; so, getting enough sleep makes a huge difference in my life. I notice it, my husband notices it, and my children notice it. My yoga practice combined with Grippz Mats = good night’s sleep, which in turn = happier wife and mommy to my family.
One of my all-time favorite times to practice my Yin Yoga is right before bed. One of my favorite sequences to follow is this Yummy sleep time yoga, which can be practiced from a couple times a week to every night; it’s really up to you.
So, there you have it, my secret to handling the craziness of the back to the school-year-routine, and how I discovered the magical combination of what Yin Yoga and Grippz Mats can do for me.
